1⃣ Salah/Mané LIV, MID/MID

As ever, it’s a coin toss between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané as to who will perform better on the day – in this case, at home to Leeds.

It ultimately comes down to how risk-averse you are – Salah is likely to be much more highly owned, so he’s definitely the safe choice.

Conversely, that means you could really steal a march if Mané scores a couple and Salah blanks.

It’s a tough call, but whichever one you go with it’s probably best to stick with that one so you don’t end up constantly chasing the previous week’s points.

Unless you plan to go with neither, which seems a viable strategy this season but certainly complicates your Gameweek 1 captaincy choice…

2⃣ Timo Werner CHE, FWD

Scored against Brighton in a recent friendly and plays them again at the Amex on opening day.

Chelsea are a team that tend to score goals on the road, and you do tend to get some comfortable away wins early on in seasons for some reason.

As such, we’ve got a sneaky feeling about Werner hitting the ground running.

3⃣ Danny Ings SOU, FWD

There’s absolutely no reason why he shouldn’t go on to score 20 goals again this year, and a trip to Crystal Palace looks a favourable start for a Saints team that does well away.

4⃣ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ARS, MID

If this was at the Emirates he’d probably be our first choice, but Fulham are defensively sound at home so it’s likely to be a tight game.

5⃣ Harry Kane TOT, FWD

Home to Everton may look good on paper but Kane barely got a sniff when they played each other in July, so caution advised.
