Wayne Rooney uses Ivory Coast flag on St. Patrick’s Day message

That’s right, Wayne Rooney used an Ivory Coast flag instead of an Irish flag on a St. Patrick’s Day message to his Instagram followers.

The Irish tricolour of course takes the same three colours as the West African country’s flag but in reverse order, with green on the left.

Man Utd and England captain Rooney should also perhaps have included a Northern Ireland flag to represent former team-mate Jonny Evans, one of those pictured in the Instagram post.

Mind you, if Rooney used an Ivory Coast flag to represent John O’Shea, he might have wound up inadvertently associating Evans with Burkina Faso.

EDIT: It seems Rooney’s now fixed the error now, so here’s a screenshot of the original:
