VIDEO: Argentinian team hoping to avoid relegation celebrate goal elsewhere before discovering there wasn’t one

Joyous scenes brought to abrupt halt.

Players and fans of San Martín de Tucumán celebrated a goal that never was in their ultimately unsuccessful bid to beat the drop from the Superliga Argentina.

Evidently one supporter had announced that Argentinos Juniors had scored at Patronato, which would have been key to helping San Martín avoid relegation.

The ensuing celebrations spill over from the stands to the pitch, where players celebrate even while their own match against San Lorenzo is ongoing.

Eventually someone listening to a radio clarifies that there had not in fact been a goal, bringing an abrupt end to the joyous scenes.

Who could have predicted that San Martín de Tucumán v San Lorenzo wouldn't be worth watching? The first game of the final weekend of Superliga action this season ended goalless a short while ago.

San Martín went on to be relegated to the Argentine Primera B Nacional following Saturday’s 0-0 draw with San Lorenzo at the Estadio La Ciudadela.
