Rio Ave defender Fábio Coentrão pulled down Andreas Samaris’s shorts after the Benfica player refused to help him up during Sunday’s Primeira Liga match.

His side were already losing by a two-goal margin when the incident happened at the Estádio dos Arcos, which might help explain his petulance.

Coentrão, a former Benfica player, went down on the turf and held his hand out to Samaris asking for a helping hand to return to his feet.

When Samaris refused, Coentrão yanked his shorts down before trotting off to greet André Almeida.

Benfica emerged as 3-2 winners to go into the final day of the season two points ahead of Porto at the top of the Portuguese top flight.
