Watch the moment the referee stormed off the pitch during Bayer Leverkusen v Borussia Dortmund when the home side’s manager refused to be sent off.
34-year-old Felix Zwayer made his dramatic exit after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s controversial 65th-minute opening goal for the visitors sparked protests from the Leverkusen camp, not least from their manager Roger Schmidt.
Having waved away calls for a foul on Leverkusen forward Stefan Kiessling in the build-up to the goal, Zwayer presumably found himself on the end of some stinging criticism and retaliated by ordering Schmidt to leave the dugout.
When the Leverkusen boss refused to budge, the referee stormed off the pitch and motioned for the players to follow suit, effectively suspending the match.
The match resumed after an eight-minute break and ended 0-1 to Dortmund, so don’t be surprised if the fallout from this one rumbles on and on.
