Referee Óscar Macías got in the way of a certain goal for Cruz Azul as they took on Toluca in the Mexican Liga MX on Saturday.

When Romo raced onto a ball over the top, took it past the Toluca goalkeeper and rolled it against the post, it bounced back to his team-mate Jonathan Rodríguez.

Rodríguez’s goal-bound shot towards the empty net was then blocked by the ref, who had somehow contrived to end up between the player and the goal.

That would have seen the home side race into an early three-goal lead at the Estadio Azteca.

Despite Toluca going on to draw level with two goals late in the first half, Cruz Azul got themselves back in front and won the game 3-2.
