A women’s coach at Fairmont State University was shown a pink card by the referee as part of an elaborate ‘gender reveal’ planned by his pregnant wife.

Courtney Materrazi is a women’s volleyball coach at Fairmont State University in West Virginia while husband Cristian is in charge of the football team.

Ahead of kick-off in the second-half of a game earlier this month, the ref took the opportunity to confront Cristian and then show him a pink card.

Best secret gender reveal ever!

A West Virginia soccer coach thought he was about to get in trouble as the referee approached him during a game, but instead of pulling out a yellow card, the ref revealed a pink one instead #MorningBoost pic.twitter.com/08y0gqbtFN

Bystander Abbey, who filmed the whole thing, said the official told him he’d had enough of his talking before getting a response of:

Are you seriously giving me a card right now?

Once the manager realises he’s not getting booked, the players in his team crowd around him to celebrate the news that his second child will be a girl.

Abbey continues:

Cristian is a very vocal coach on the sidelines and thus him getting a card would be nothing new!

The women’s soccer players were told the gender the day before so they could prepare the bench with hidden bottles and piles of pink confetti.
