Prince of Wales contrived to score a truly remarkable own goal during their 12-0 defeat to Maidstone United Women in the Kent Women’s Plate.
The round of 16 tie at the Gallagher Stadium descended into farce with a catalogue of errors involving no fewer than three Prince of Wales players.
First their goalkeeper slices ineffectively at a clearance, then the left-back makes a hash of the resulting bounce, gifting it to an opposition attacker.
The Maidstone player slides in an effort to direct the ball towards goal, but it looks to be heading comfortably wide of the far post.
That is until another defender comes rushing in to mop up the danger, only to slip and divert the ball back towards goal with an inadvertent back-heel.
As the ball trickles over the line, the goalkeeper makes a last-ditch attempt to prevent it from doing so – needless to say, she doesn’t manage to.
