New York City defender Gudi Thórarinsson, a popular singer in his native Iceland, has written a coronavirus isolation song and performed it on video.

In this clip, the 28-year-old gently strums his acoustic guitar and sweetly croons positive lyrics such as:

The man on the moon, he told me good times are coming soon

If there's ever been a better initiation song, we haven't heard it.

Thórarinsson has played five games for his country but is yet to make an appearance for the Major League Soccer team he joined in January.

His musical talent is no secret – in 2018 he got to the semi-finals of Söngvakeppnin, the Icelandic version of The Voice.
