Even though the 36-year-old saved spot kicks from Dennis Praet, Stefano Okaka and Youri Tielemans, Anderlecht took a 1-0 lead into the 4th minute of stoppage time before succumbing to Kara Mbodj’s own goal.

Anderlecht’s manager Besnik Hasi lamented his misfiring players after the game with the following dig at Gillet’s height:

“With all the respect I have for him, the Mechelen keeper is only 4’9″ tall but we managed to hit three penalties along the ground.”

Gillet, who is actually a foot taller than that, has previous in terms of multiple penalty heroics – he saved 2 penalties, one from Andrea Pirlo, during a Serie A match between Bari and Brescia.

Apparently he saved a club record 18 penalties during his time at Bari, including 2 from Roma legend Francesco Totti, and was given the key to the city for his feats of goalkeeping.
