Watch as Landon Donovan wears sunglasses after a pair were thrown at him by El Salvador fans during their Gold Cup quarter-final clash with the United States.

The El Salvador fans created a ruckus throughout the match in Baltimore and threw objects onto the pitch at every opportunity.

One such item was a pair of sunglasses, aimed at Landon Donovan as he waited to take a corner.

In this video, the player is seen to pick them up before appearing to attempt to hand them to the assistant referee, who initially seems reluctant to receive.

Perhaps as an act of defiance, Donovan promptly places the fashion accessory over his eyes.

Just as quickly though, the assistant referee grabs them back off him.

The match eventually finished 5-1 to the United States. This victory means it’s now nine straight wins for the national team.

After a nervous period shortly following half-time, the Americans secured a win with 3 second-half goals.

Substitute Eddie Johnson got the first of these, scoring within seconds of his fist touch.

Landon Donovan was instrumental throughout, getting on the scoresheet and making assists.
