Feeling that his side should have had a penalty late on in a 1-1 draw with rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, Erwin the Schalke mascot showed a red card to the referee who appeared to have dropped it following the final whistle at Veltins-Arena.

Ref Felix Zwayer dismissed claims of handball against Dortmund defender Marc Bartra, sparking furious protests from the home bench which resulted in Schalke manager Markus Weinzierl being dismissed.

As the players remonstrated with officials after the game, Erwin the mascot spotted his opportunity to show the referee the red card, furiously pointing to Zwayer in the process:

Fearing trouble for the team’s costumed representative, Schalke board member Christian Heidel has said he should attend any hearing “in costume”:

Christian Heidel: "If he [ Erwin ] is punished, we will enter negotiations. And he'll turn up in costume." #Legend #S04
