Mats Seuntjens of AZ Alkmaar put so much spin on his chip that it bounced back off the goal line during his side’s 5-0 KNVB Cup win over PEC Zwolle.
The Dutch midfielder’s shot during the Round of 16 clash at the AFAS Stadion evoked the old Andy Townsend catchphrase “he’s almost hit it too well”.
Receiving the ball on the edge of the penalty area, Seuntjens places a delightful chip over a despairing goalkeeper – only to see it bounce backwards before crossing the line.
He would later go on to score during the thumping victory, with Oussama Idrissi (2), Guus Til and Fredrik Midtsjø also on the mark for the Eredivisie team.
Nicknamed the Cheeseheads, AZ Alkmaar were shock runaway champions of their domestic league under Louis van Gaal in 2009 and have been a strong presence in recent seasons.
