Australia fans in Russia chanted “VAR! VAR!” after video technology helped earn them a penalty to equalise in the 1-1 draw against Denmark.

The Socceroos were on the receiving end of a contentious VAR decision in their first game, losing to France after a controversial Antoine Griezmann penalty opened the scoring.

This time however they were the beneficiaries, Yussuf Poulsen’s handball allowing Aston Villa’s Mile Jedinak to step up and score his second spot kick of the tournament.

Next up for Australia is a game against Peru, where only a win could be enough to take them into the knockout stages – and even then it won’t be a guarantee.
