Leeds manager Brian McDermott buys drinks for Leeds fans at a pre-season friendly in Slovenia.
Leeds beat a Slovenian Select XI 3-1 at Fazanerija Stadium in front of 300 of their own fans thanks to goals from Matt Smith, Dominic Poleon and Noel Hunt, but the match grabbed the headlines thanks to manager McDermott’s generosity.
Responding to a chorus of “It’s your round Brian” from the thirsty travelling supporters, McDermott handed a 50 euro note to a fan through the fence at the side of the pitch.
McDermott later told Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay:
I only had 50 Euros so I gave it to them. It was my round apparently and it’s all I had! I’d have given them more if I had it but I only came out with 50. I feel a bit bad actually.
