With Martin O’Neill sacked, Sunderland fans from the Ready To Go forum took it upon themselves to debate their worst manager during the Premier League era. Seems there’s no shortage of candidates for this dubious honour…

Sunderland fans debate worst manager

My Ambiguous Seagull

MON – our worst ever premiership manager

To be this close to relegation with the money spent on wages and transfer fees is crazy.

No, but he’s done an absolutely shameful job.

Howard Wilkinson, Ricky Sbragia and maybe Mick McCarthy may want a word however none of those 3 have had the financial backing O’Neill has had.

Wise Man Says

It shows how bad we’ve been when we can produce plenty of arguments and examples of managers as to why MoN isn’t our worst.

Fucking hell, what a life we have supporting this club.

Bruce wasted a lot more money that MON has

Beefy Monster Munch

No he didn’t.

He did like.

Bruce filled our squad with players who have no pace and no creativity, just a few weeks after allowing the likes of Henderson, Malbranque and Zenden to leave.

That summer was the one where we could have really kicked in, Bruce wasted it.

clockstand pie chuka

Lets put it this way Mrs Doubtfire will be laughing all over his fat face when we swap divisions.

MON hasn’t helped matters like, he has bought players who also have no pace and no creativity, whilst telling these players not to attack

Aberdeen Angus

In 2002, Peter Reid spent 22 million on top of a squad that already contained Sorensen, Gray, Phillips, Reyna and McCann. That team went down with 19 points.

Reid’s last two seasons at Sunderland were probably worse than this. His last season most certainly was (I know Wilkinson and McCarthy were involved but it was of Reid’s making)

Are people forgetting we were relegated with 15 points.

A lot of it really does look like his fault.

How do you assemble a team that makes less sense put together than the teams put out by Steve Bruce

His record is just behind Reids in terms of percentage of games won in the Premier League. 2nd best. Clearly not our worst manager. Really gutted though. How has it come to this?
