Sturridge… ‘Explosive start’ (Img: Vilnietis)

Daniel Sturridge equalled Ray Kennedy’s record of scoring in each of his first three games for Liverpool, following goals at Mansfield Town and Manchester United with another in Saturday’s 5-0 win over Norwich City at Anfield, so Football Burp visited Reds forums Red and White Kop and This is Anfield to see what folk had to say about the £12m striker…

Daniel Sturridge

IndianRed, Red and White Kop…

Oh, how I’ve missed watching a Liverpool striker gambling on a far post run and make an easy tap-in!!

Zinedine Biscan, This is Anfield…

Sturridge and Suarez were brilliant together. Sturridge has made such a difference to our attack already – adding pace, penetration, good movement, directness and a genuine alternative source of goals.

All that, and the boy can find team-mates with a good pass, something I really didn’t expect.

I said if he could get in double figures for us this season he’d be a success, I’m starting to worry I set the bar too low.

The Grinch, Red and White Kop…

It is nice to see someone making the kind of runs Torres used to make ans stretching the oppositions back four but with the added ability to drop off and play people in. The lad can play lets hope he can continue in this vein.

its nice to see a pacey striker playing through the middle, giving suarez the opportunity to drop into the ‘hole’, pick the ball up and create something… nice move by brenden to bring in danny boy.

Camarero25, Red and White Kop…

He’s been absolutely class so far. He gets into goalscoring positions and, guess what, he scores goals!

Not bad link up play, creativity or passing from such a selfish bastard either. ;)

i_still_miss_fowler, This is Anfield…

I said it after the united game, the biggest benefit Sturridge might bring is not simple goals but the alteration of team shape (moving away from 4-3-3).

A very positive sign this might be the case.

Hazell, Red and White Kop…

Terrific start from him, impacted in every game he’s played in. That dummy was excellent and his 2 yard tap in was something we’ve lacked this season (he was in there a couple of other times as well). But an overall excellent game from him and he also seems to be able to draw in defenders towards him which means space for his teammates. Positive that him and Suarez seem on a similar wavelength as well.

Maria, This is Anfield…

With regards to Sturridge, I was one of those sceptics who was wary about whether he was the right fit for LFC and its traditions and whether he had the talent to change Liverpool’s misfortunate lack of goals because of his limited exposure in the EPL. Would he be too egotistical, would he be too greedy, could he get on well with our Dennis… sorry, I mean Luis the menace, and forge a formidable partnership? Well, he has kind of won me over and I hope this is a long term symbiotic relationship.

zip, Red and White Kop…

Really like the lad. Had my doubts about him before we signed him, but his proved me wrong quickly. Has pace, skills and links up with Suarez really well. Their partnership looks very promising.

Mascot88, This is Anfield…

Sturridge looks to be a real quality addition to team, linking up well with Suarez and Gerrard and generally allaying all my fears about selfishness and ego (the dummy for Suarez goal was lovely). People were convinced that he was a waste of money, but 3 in 3 doesn’t lie.

jboy14, Red and White Kop…

I had no idea his link up play could be so good.

Clearly all the people who said he was too greedy and had an attitude problem had never seen him play.

kopite1982, This is Anfield…

Sturrige-not a world class striker but what a difference he makes in that final 3rd! Im surprised to be honest with the contribution he has made in the 3 games he has played(lets not forget,he has only played about 170 odd mins) well done daniel.

Anywhichwayucan, Red and White Kop…

Will be right up there with Falcao and Zlatan, in two years.

NZred, This is Anfield…

Sturridge is very much proving his doubters wrong. I couldn’t care less that they’ve all been tap in, that isn’t the point, he has gotten there in the first place to dispatch the ball.

Rusty, Red and White Kop…

Aside from his goal today, I thought his general team play was very good – held up the ball well, he shields it and has good quick feet which he uses to keep it moving quickly when he’s stationary and buys himself time. Also has a good eye for a pass, multiple times he got the ball with his back to goal, held it up and then played someone in (IIRC it went out to our left wing several times) then spun and looked to get back up top into a dangerous position.

Very glad he is confounding those who called him an overrated English signing, and even more glad that we finally have a confident, hungry goalscorer who has both the talent and the mental attributes to cope with being a frontline striker for LFC again.

LFC-Orlando, This is Anfield…

Danny’s connection with Luis, as well as with our midfield is commendable too. It’s almost like he’s been playing with them for months, not 2 weeks. So glad all the London naysayers are quietly concerned that this didn’t turn out like they were hoping “he’s not played and he’s too risky” my arse.

Goes to also show everyone that sometimes incoming transfers work out immediately and some take a long time.

Thormo, Red and White Kop…

Keep it coming. If he can continue in this style he will be a great asset. He is a poacher and he always have a finish in his mind. The lack of a poacher has obviously been our biggest issue the last 2 years.

He gives Suarez more space as well as opponents need to worry about Daniel as well.

Also he is young and british.
