How can you ensure Yaya Touré staying at Manchester City? It appears the good people at cricket-based radio programme Test Match Special had the answer all along.
So moved by Touré’s plight were TMS commentators Glenn McGrath, Jonathan Agnew, Phil Tufnell, Henry Blofeld and Michael Vaughan that they have arranged for their surplus cakes to be forwarded onto the Ivorian’s address in order that he may feel like a perpetual birthday boy.

Test Match Special has for many years taken receipt of listeners’ baked goods and sampled them live on air, often accompanied by hearty guffawing and references to the “goodly amount of brandy” contained within.
Touré threatened to leave City in May amidst accusations that they had neglected to celebrate his birthday, but he is understood to have reconsidered his stance in anticipation of the impending gateau glut.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Blofeld explained that the TMS team can only get through so much cake in one sitting anyway.
He said: “After four or five we’re all usually feeling pretty bloated and my bow tie starts spinning uncontrollably, whistling like a boiling kettle.
“Suffice it to say we usually have to wave away the other twelve or so we get sent each show, so why not send them onto Yaya?
“If it helps tie this article together in reasonably topical fashion then I’m all for it.”
Meanwhile, news of Yaya Touré staying at Manchester City has been hailed by supporter group Fans Who Want to Hear Happy Birthday Sung by a Whole Stadium for 90 Minutes.
