Aston has confirmed that it will leave Villa after 141 years of conjoined status, it has confirmed.
The area of Birmingham, home for a short while to celebrated author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, announced at a hastily arranged press conference that its association with Villa was “untenable” following the departures of Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke.
Quite what this means for Villa’s continued existence as a top flight football club remains to be seen, although Tim Sherwood is reported to have offered up his own name as a temporary replacement.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Sherwood expressed his disappointment at losing Aston so close to the start of the 2015-16 season but remained bullish about his chances of leading Sherwood Villa to glory.
He said: “F*** me sideways.”
Alan Hutton and Philippe Senderos were unavailable for comment as they were badly out of position at the time.
