France beat Argentina 4-3 on Saturday to end Lionel Messi’s World Cup involvement, with an electric Kylian Mbappé scoring twice.
Antoine Griezmann put the French in front from the penalty spot, with an Angel Di María screamer equalising close to half-time.
The Argentines then took the lead when Lionel Messi’s shot deflected in off Gabriel Mercado before Benjamin Pavard’s stunning strike levelled things up.
Mbappé appeared to have put the result beyond doubt with a brilliant brace, but Sergio Agüero’s late header set up a nervy and ill-tempered finish.
