Fantasy Premier League tips, sir? Southampton bargains for 2014-15? Damn right you will, now take a seat.

It’s not been a happy summer for the Saints, losing manager Mauricio Pochettino and more star players than you can wave a goodbye at, but there’s still some value for money left in Ronald Koeman’s squad.

Join us, then, as we try our darnedest to muster some Southampton-flavoured Fantasy Premier League tips for your delectation and/or misinformation…

James Ward-Prowse – £5m

Now Adam Lallana’s gone, the young midfielder looks like having a key role to play for the Saints this year.

In fact, given the added departure of Rickie Lambert and absence through injury of last season’s top scorer Jay Rodriguez, the one they call JWP may find himself relied upon for goals and assists.

If he’s as talented as we’re led to believe, these should come in sufficient quantity to make a mockery of his bargain basement Fantasy Premier League fee. Well, the assists anyway – he doesn’t strike as a prolific goal-scorer.

Steven Davis – £5m

Another midfielder you can expect to play an increased role, Davis has the head start of having been influential last season – two goals and seven assists will attest to that.

Goodness knows why he’s priced lower than £5.5m defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. Southampton fans – what do you know that we don’t?

Gastón Ramírez – £5.5m

Again, what with all the high-profile departures, it could be the Uruguayan midfielder’s time to shine.

A cursory google reveals he comes from Fray Bentos. You’d think more would have been made of that by the notorious pie-munchers that are English football fans.

Unless that fuss was made already and we missed it. In which case, apologies.
