This is the moment FC Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz digs his heel into FC Köln’s penalty spot, causing Anthony Modeste to slip and miss from 12 yards.

The Swiss stopper, who scored a stoppage-time equalizer against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in February, escaped unnoticed at the time while players argued with the referee – but now he has to cough up.

Köln’s stadium manager Hans Rütten sent Hitz a bill of 122.92 euros (£89.15) to cover the cost of both a square metre of turf and the two hours’ work it will apparently take to replace it.

Rütten said:

Strictly speaking, it was the wanton destruction of KSS property. What Marwin Hitz did had little to do with fair play. It’s not about the money, but a bit of punishment does no harm. If Marwin Hitz pays, then we will donate the amount to the children’s hospital in Cologne.

Fortunately, Hitz is only too happy to oblige, tweeting the following:
