Rangers striker Martyn Waghorn confronted a schoolboy who called him “shite” while he was walking down a street in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire.

The 26-year-old, who has scored just once this season, appeared to take exception to the insult from the youngster in school uniform and turned around after passing by while carrying a large bag of what was advertised as fish and chips.

Face to face with the pupil, said to be from ‘high-achieving’ St Ninian’s, on a street corner in the ‘affluent suburban town’, the player demands he “say it to me face”.

Still eating a sandwich, the boy seems to call him “shite” again, with which a satisfied Waghorn tells him he’s a “good lad” before striding off.
