England fans were dismayed when Portuguese police confiscated their ball during a kickabout in a square in Guimarães before Thursday’s Nations League semi-final.
To be fair to the law enforcement personnel, the game had started to get a little out of hand – witness one supporter’s long punt almost crashing into a window.

Nevertheless, the police were seen as the party-poopers of the piece by the travelling Three Lions contingent, who went on to chant “we want our ball back”.
To make matters worse, Gareth Southgate’s side went on to lose 3-1 to the Netherlands after extra time at the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques.
Ronald Koeman’s team will take on Portugal in Sunday’s final while England play Switzerland in the third place play-off.
