Frank Lampard is edging ever closer to becoming Chelsea’s all-time top goal-scorer, but he hasn’t always been the kind of terrace darling that he has become among the Stamford Bridge faithful. Here’s a clip from 1996 of then West Ham United manager Harry Redknapp defending an 18-year-old Lampard, sat there by his side, in the face of some stinging criticism from one or two Irons fans, who presumably suspected nepotism on account of the player’s father being Redknapp’s assistant at the time…

Football Burp wagers those one or two fans have spent the last decade feeling a wee bit silly as the player they saw no future for racked up the major honours and England caps.

Maybe those Premier League managers do know a bit more than the average punter after all.
