Watch the non-league player punches fan video, that shows Goole captain Karl Colley attempt to land one on a Coalville Town supporter after being sent off during a Northern Premier League First Division South game.

19 years to the day after Eric Cantona aimed a kung fu kick at someone in the stands, Colley stormed into the crowd after reportedly suffering cruel taunts about his weight from a group of ardent Coalville Town fans.

Although he doesn’t appear to have connected, the 30-year-old defender swung at least one punch at an unidentified fan and had to be restrained by club staff.

Colley, a former Newcastle United trainee, was promptly sacked by Goole shortly after after the game.

A Coalville fan told BBC 606:

The Goole captain has just gone ballistic. He got sent off, it was a bad tackle. I think he knew he was going to be sent off. There was a melee with the players.

He threw the captain’s armband on the floor. Coalville fans started singing at him – nothing malicious in what they were singing. He threw open the black gate and ran up and tried to hit one of our fans. Luckily the punch missed.

The Goole officials, fair play, are trying to stop him.

And the away team’s Twitter account covered the action as it happened:

Goole No 5 sent off, horrible tackle on Stuart, walks off then approaches the Coalville fans in the stands and starts throwing punches!!

You'd of hoped Goole's No 5's punching was better than his footballing skills, unfortunately not #swingandmiss

@Tinyrumens @Chr1s_Palmer They sang 'You fat B*****d' hardly the worse thing you'll hear at football, ask anyone in the stand nothing else.

Karl Colley was eventually brought back under control by none other than former Premier League midfielder, now professional boxer and Goole assistant – Curtis Woodhouse:

everybody f**** up now and again, no need to stone them to death #football

I don't condone or make excuses for today, it was wrong on many levels #football
