A youngster dressed up for Halloween as Terry Butcher with the bloody head wound he incurred playing for England against Sweden in 1989.

The image of Butcher in his bloodied Three Lions jersey and head bandage has become part of the iconography of English football, foreshadowing as it did England’s last run to the World Cup semi-finals before this year.

That was 28 years ago, so it’s probably safe to presume that this costume wasn’t the child’s idea at origin.
