Fresh from his trip to Cuba, Barack Obama is now in Argentina and yesterday revealed that he had been unable to arrange for his daughters to meet Lionel Messi during their visit to the South American nation.

After years of tensions between the two countries the United States president arrived in Buenos Aires early on Wednesday morning with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha.

Despite being one of the world’s most powerful men, while speaking to young entrepreneurs on the official visit, Obama told the audience at the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative Town Hall:

But I also wanted to bring my daughters here, so they could see the beauty and the vibrancy of this city.

They’ve already met one famous Argentinean – His Holiness Pope Francis.

They will not get a chance to experience the Palermo at night. (Laughter.)

They will have to come back on their own to do that – not with their father. (Laughter.)
