Triumphant England boss Gareth Southgate stared next year’s World Cup straight in the eye and said “I’m winning you” after his side demolished Slovakia 2-1.

Goals from Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford were enough to win the World Cup qualifier, with England once again looking like being comfortable group winners and therefore clear tournament favourites.

A crowing Southgate told Football Burp: “I’m crowing, absolutely crowing.

“To be among the most comfortable qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup, that has to place us among the favourites to win it in theory.

“Extrapolate the whole thing out just a little bit more and we’re basically odds-on to win it until next summer when we’re actually in Russia making a meal of it.

“So why not just enjoy the delusional buzz in the mean time? I know I am. I mean, it’s not every day you get to dream about winning the World Cup.

“The World Cup! Sigh.”
