Former England manager Fabio Capello has hit back at criticism of his methods from Everton defender Phil Jagielka, insisting that he only banned ketchup because it’s disgusting.
The Italian, leathery, also explained that he refused his England players a consolatory beer after their 0-0 2010 World Cup draw with Algeria because of their frightful tastes rather than on the assumed grounds of fitness and conditioning.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, Capello shuddered as he recalled how Wayne Rooney threatened to jam a straw into a bottle of Budweiser and ‘shotgun’ it in five seconds.
He said: “First of all, let me make this quite clear – I f***ing hate ketchup, brown sauce, burger sauce, even mayonnaise.
“Your sugary condiments are like Kryptonite to me, as is the stale piss you like to swill both warm and by the gallon.
“A nice, frosty glass of Peroni or Nastro Azzurro of an evening really helps me unwind from my customary ‘strict disciplinarian’ shtick, but Foster’s straight from the can?
“It makes me want to sick all in my mouth.”
