England’s U-21 side have been nominated for the Darwin Awards after being seen to be playing for penalties in a World Cup semi-final against Germany.
The awards are traditionally doled out in honour of those who’ve brought on their own demise through an act of gross stupidity.
However, the criteria has now been broadened to include comparable sporting catastrophes.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, England U-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd sounded delighted until he clocked on.
He said: “My boys have been terrific, so even though they can’t win the World Cup it’s great they’re getting some kind of recognition.
“What did you say this was for again?”
He added: “Okay, I’m going to hang up now.”
