Saturday’s Ashley Young dive against Crystal Palace has spoken of its delight at following in the non-footsteps of illustrious Ashley Young dives of yore.
The dive, fiendish, was ultimately unsuccessful in its intention of winning a penalty for David Moyes’s Manchester United side but earned widespread plaudits for the meticulously practised nature of its execution.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, the latest Ashley Young dive declared itself “honoured” to have continued the rich tradition of such legendary Ashley Young dives as those against Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa at Old Trafford last season.
It said: “Obviously I grew up watching dives like those, so it’s a thrill to now be sharing a YouTube montage with them.
“It was disappointing not to be awarded a penalty after putting so much work into it, but I managed to get one soon afterwards so I suppose it all worked out in the end.”
Watching on from the directors’ box, the Ashley Young dive against Aston Villa was seen to rise uncharacteristically to it feet and applaud wildly, in what is already being described as “a heartwarming moment”.
The Ashley Young dive against QPR was unavailable for comment as it is still in the process of returning from an offside position.
