This year’s Carling Cup final might actually be worth watching, according to everyone.
Liverpool progressed to the Wembley showpiece with a 2-2 draw against Manchester City at Anfield last night, a result which saw the Reds win 3-2 on aggregate and set up a February 26th date with Championship promotion hopefuls Cardiff City.
While a tie between the Bluebirds and Roberto Mancini’s expensively assembled City side would likely have made for a somewhat one-sided affair, the soft underbelly that Kenny Dalglish has skilfully maintained in his side has led to nationwide utterances of “ooh, we should watch that”.
Sean Barrett, a Newcastle United fan from Scotswood, said: “Due to the continuous stream of inevitable whallopings and inexperienced Arsenal sides, I pretty much lose interest in the League Cup the moment my beloved Magpies go out on penalties.
“However, the prospect of seeing Cardiff robbing grand old Liverpool of one last pot has made me all tingly with excitement. I shall definitely be tuning in on the 26th – in fact, I typed out the date thousands of times over, like that mad bit in The Shining.
“I like The Shining.”
Rob Foster, an Everton fan from Kirkby, said: “Last minute own-goal from Bellamy please please please please!”
He added: “Please please please please!”
