More than 500,000 people have signed a petition calling for Uefa to make Celtic play more Champions League qualifiers, it has emerged.
Brendan Rodgers’s Hoops beat Astana of Kazakhstan 8-4 on aggregate to qualify for the competition’s group stage, but at least half a million fans haven’t had enough crazy.
Speaking exclusively to Football Burp, the petition’s author described his craving for more Celtic-based playoff matches.
They said: “There’s always some kind of mad comeback, or one team getting disqualified for fielding an ineligible player, or someone called Shitov scoring an own goal.
“I’d like to see Uefa subject Celtic to twenty qualifying rounds, two legs each, before they’re even allowed near the Champions League proper.
“Where, let’s face it, they’re hardly going to be pulling up trees anyway.”
Celtic boss Rodgers admitted he was “braced” for further wacky qualification antics.
He said: “It will be great for fans of minnows right across the continent to get a chance to see me and my team in action.
“They’ve probably been hearing a lot about this great team that’s just set some kind of record, but if only they could see it for themselves.
“Well, half a million more signatures and they can.”
He added: “At the very least it will beat playing Ross County seventeen times a season.”
