Talking Liverpool with… The Moons

Bassist Ben Curtis discusses his beloved Liverpool.

The Moons

The Moons return with their second single “Body Snatchers” on June 23rd, so we caught up with the band’s bassist Ben Curtis for a chat about his beloved Liverpool.

First, though, check out their previous single “Heart and Soul” and see why they’ve been commended by such cast-iron legends of the game as The Kinks’ Dave Davies and The Zombies’ Rod Argent…

Do you reckon Raheem Sterling should start for England against Italy?

I do, yeah, and Ross Barkley as well. They should go with younger players who’ve got the hunger, who’ve got no fear and aren’t afraid to try things.

How about Jordan Henderson? Do you think he might struggle to sustain his hi-octane playing style in the heat of the jungle?

I think he’ll be okay. He seems to be able to run forever! I dunno, it might be tricky – I hope so though. There are players Roy Hodgson can bring on if he gets tired, I suppose.

Can you see Luis Suárez tearing England’s defence a new one, and if he does will part of you enjoy it?

He’s probably one of the top three players in the world so anyone’s going to struggle to play against him. I’m not sure about Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill at the back, though – I’d worry if I were those two.

What do you think of your new signings Rickie Lambert and Emre Can?

I don’t know much about Can but from what I’ve read of him he seems like he’ll be a good utility player. He’s young and he’ll have time to settle in.

As for Lambert, it’s like a fairytale! He’s proved he can score, and now he’s playing and scoring for England. He scores penalties, he scores free kicks – he’s a goal-scorer.

He’s a good player to have around for the dressing room and for the fans too, and he’ll provide good cover for Suárez and Sturridge. We could have used him last year when Suárez was suspended and Sturridge was injured.

Finally, if you had to select a five-a-side team out of all the Liverpool players you’ve seen in your time as a fan, who would you pick?

Jerzy Dudek in goal, just for the Champions League final penalty save! I love Sami Hyypiä too, he was brilliant – he was solid and he scored.

I don’t think anyone would argue with Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. And Robbie Fowler up front.

The Moons’ 2nd single “Body Snatchers” will be released on June 23rd, to be followed by the album Mindwaves on July 21st.
