Amber Run… Wasn’t that a track on Mario Kart?

Amber Run are gearing up for a UK tour in May and a number of high-profile festival appearances in the summer, so we caught up with front man Joe Keogh for a natter about his beloved Liverpool FC.

First, though, check out the video to their brand-spanking-new single “Spark”…

Liverpool sit on the cusp of the title. Are you allowing yourself to believe yet?

I think it’ll come down to more than just the Chelsea game, but it’s feeling pretty good.

This might sound bad but I won’t be disgusted if we don’t win the league from here – it’s just good to be back among the elite clubs again, going into every game thinking you can win it.

How do you think you’ll do in the Champions League next season? Do you have the squad for it?

It’s a little thin on the ground just now but I feel pretty good about this summer’s transfer prospects.

Not being in the Champions League has been what’s stopped us from being in for the best players – we’ve got the heritage, and a class act like Steven Gerrard in our team, so I think we’ll be alright.

Anyway, if Manchester United can get to the quarter-finals of the Champions League then anyone can!

Should England model their World Cup team on Liverpool? Sturridge, Gerrard, Henderson, Sterling…

Yes, absolutely, 100%. I also think Terry and Cahill should be the centre-back pairing, they’ve been playing with each other all season so it would be really useful.

It would be a travesty if Lallana isn’t in the starting line-up, and I’d like to see Barkley get a call-up ahead of Wilshere and that lot.

Even speaking as a Liverpool fan, the way Barkley marauds forward is more exciting than Henderson, but I wouldn’t be angry at all if Henderson and Gerrard were paired in the centre. It’s a good pair.

Have you managed to get to Anfield much over the years?

I haven’t been this season as I’ve been busy with the band, but I usually manage to get there once or twice a season. Hopefully we’ll get some time off and I’ll be able to go again soon.

What were the best and worst matches you’ve been to?

There’ve been a few drubbings! One that sticks in mind is the 4-4 draw against Arsenal when Arshavin scored all four of their goals.

I just enjoy going, whatever the outcome – I get to go with my granddad, have a pint after, it’s fun.

Finally, if you had to name a five-a-side team out of all the Liverpool players you’ve seen in your time as a fan, who would you pick?

I’m going to put Vladimír Šmicer in there, just for that goal in the Champions League final!

John Arne Riise for his unbelievable left foot, Gerrard’s got to be in there and I’m such a huge fan of Raheem Sterling as well. He has to start at the World Cup.

Then, just for comedy value, I’ll whack Dudek in there.

Joe Keogh, thank you.
