World Cup Fantasy Football Tips, Quarter-Finals: Defenders

Pick your team in time for the quarter-finals...

Mats Hummels, if he plays for Germany, is recommended in our World Cup Fantasy Football Tips for the Quarter-Finals - Defenders and Goalkeepers section

As educated guesses go, our World Cup Fantasy Football tips for defenders (and goalkeepers) in the quarter-finals are 26% more educated and a whopping 87% more guessed than the national average.

Several different versions of the game are proving to be popular so we can’t be specific on prices, but then your choices get less and less as more teams get knocked out anyway.

IMPROVE THE REST OF YOUR SIDE:

Anyway, on to the defenders and goalkeepers in the quarter-finals…

World Cup Fantasy Football Tips, Quarter-Finals: Defenders (and goalkeepers)

With any luck you’ll have played your cards sufficiently wisely so far not to have to make too many enforced transfers – needless to say, get any players from eliminated sides out of your team.

Holland look a great bet to not only progress to the semi-finals but to keep a clean sheet in doing so – don’t get us wrong, Costa Rica have been marvellous but this is surely one test too many for them.

The Netherlands will be the strongest opposition they’ve faced so far, and Costa Rica looked knackered enough at the end of their ten-man victory over Greece to suggest that they’ll struggle here.

If you’re playing a version of the game that lists the attack-minded Daley Blind as a defender – the Mirror Fantasy Football game, for example – then get him in.

Looking at the other quarter-finals, it’s hard to judge where a clean sheet might come from. Both France and Germany have looked solid and shaky alternately, so goodness knows how they’ll fare against each other.

If Mats Hummels recovers from the bout of flu that kept him out against Algeria then we’d err towards Germany, especially as Karim Benzema seems to have stopped scoring for France.

Alternatively, you might see Benzema as being due a goal. Tread carefully.

Belgium had looked resilient but were carved open on several occasions by the USA, so they might find life tougher against an admittedly shot-shy-looking Argentina side.

And we’d back Brazil and Colombia to score against each other. Mind you, David Luiz might score again…

Tough calls all round, basically. Definitely avoid players from teams you think will lose their quarter-final, lest you have to make more changes later.

Happy selecting, Fantasy heads!
