Fantasy Premier League tips are good for you, it’s been proven – by science, no less. Trust us on that one. And trust our recommendations for Newcastle United bargains.
Having found themselves jostling for the European spots going into December, Alan Pardew’s Magpies fell away alarmingly after selling Yohan Cabaye to Paris Saint-Germain in January without signing a replacement.
This summer has seen them sign their usual cabal of modestly priced internationals, a policy that’s yielded decidedly mixed results in recent years.
Unknown quantities aside, there’s value for money to be found at St James’s Park – so make yourselves comfortable and prepare yourselves however you must for our NUFC-flavoured Fantasy Premier League tips…
Moussa Sissoko – £6m
Now coming into his third year as a Newcastle United player, the French international midfielder was the subject of rave reviews last season and has had high hopes pinned to him for this one.
He should be flying after playing and scoring at the World Cup, as well as fired up to secure his place in the side for France 2016. What’s French for ‘champing at the bit’?
Fabricio Coloccini – £4.5m
Used sparingly – ie. whenever you fancy Newcastle to keep a clean sheet – the Argentine defender looks like an excellent squad option at such a cheap price.
Mike Williamson is also £4.5m, but Coloccini’s name surely comes first on the team sheet.
Tim Krul – £4.5m
Kind of a mix of the above pair – the Dutch goalkeeper should be buzzing after his World Cup penalty shoot-out heroics against Costa Rica, and at that price he could be a snazzy option if rotated judiciously.
Krul also has that Shay Given habit of keeping Newcastle in games with save after save after save. ‘Keepers get one point every three saves, remember.
