Fantasy Football Tips, Gameweek 8 – Goalkeeper and Defence

With five clean sheets from seven, Southampton are the defensive dependables of the season thus far – this weekend, though, they go to Old Trafford.

But hey, the way Manchester United have started the season is hardly suggestive of a hiding in the offing. The call is yours.

Our clean sheet tip of the weekend is Swansea City, who welcome struggling Sunderland to the Liberty Stadium.

With Gus Poyet having just taken over there is of course the chance that there’ll be a sort of ‘new manager bounce’, but Michael Laudrup’s Swans are a solid bunch.

Ben Davies (£5m) and Ashley Williams (£4.9m) are each listed as having a 75% chance of being fit enough to play, so you might want to look at goalkeeper Michel Vorm and centre back Chico Flores at £5m apiece.

Elsewhere, West Ham United did brilliantly to win 3-0 at Tottenham Hotspur last time out, but they might find a shut-out harder to come by at home to Manchester City this weekend.

Arsenal are at home to Norwich, Chelsea at home to Cardiff City and Everton at home to Hull City, but we can see each of those away sides scoring at least once.

Our “0-0 written all over it” of the week has to be Stoke City v West Bromwich Albion, while you might do well to get any Newcastle United defenders out of your team before they face the on-form strikers of Liverpool.
