Fantasy Football Tips Gameweek 33: Goalkeepers and Defenders
Manchester City’s defence has been in sparkling form of late, Mathieu Flamini’s equaliser for Arsenal being the only goal they’ve conceded in the last six league games.
City tend to start with Aleksandar Kolarov at left-back for home games, the more defensive Gaël Clichy for away games – Gameweek 33 brings Southampton to the Etihad, so £5.1m Kolarov it is.
That’s an outstanding price for someone who can earn points at both ends of the pitch, so the Serbian’s inclusion is certainly advisable.
You’d back Chelsea to keep a clean sheet at home to Stoke City, but their cheapest starting defender is César Azpilicueta at a comparatively bank-breaking £5.6m.
Looking at this weekend’s Premier League fixtures, we see several potential clean sheets – Norwich City at home to West Bromwich Albion, for example, seeing as the Canaries look so solid at home.
Goalkeeper John Ruddy is a popular pick at £5.1m, but you might want to browse the other Norwich bargains on offer.
Hull City could well remain unbreached at home to Swansea City, their main man at the back being £4.8m centre-half Curtis Davies.
Davies’s eye for goal makes a shrewd option of him – likewise Cardiff City’s £5.2m Steven Caulker, who bagged his fifth goal of the season in the 3-3 draw at West Bromwich Albion.
Cardiff are at home to Crystal Palace this weekend, so Caulker’s another with the potential to earn you points both defensively and offensively.
Tottenham Hotspur are a reasonable shout to keep a clean sheet at home to Sunderland, although they’ve looked distinctly less than mean of late.
If they survive the 4-0 mauling at Liverpool, then £4.6m Younes Kaboul and £4.1m Kyle Naughton could represent good value for money.
