Aldershot manager Gary Waddock waved fans down from the stands to celebrate when his side went 3-1 up on penalties against Ebbsfleet – but they went on to lose 5-4.
In a dramatic sequence of events, Ebbsfleet equalised late into extra time to take the tie to a shoot-out, where they then overcame a significant deficit to put themselves within touching distance of the Football League.
Clearly Waddock thought it was all over, beckoning supporters down to join in the preemptive celebrations, but it backfired as his Aldershot side let the lead slip.
Ebbsfleet’s victory means they will face Tranmere in Saturday’s semi-final.
