Kinnear… Tweeted about (Image: Mattythewhite)

Joe Kinnear’s appointment as the Director of Football at Newcastle and his subsequent appearance on TalkSport has raised plenty of eyebrows and now some of the players have chimed in on Twitter.

Both striker Sammy Ameobi and goalkeeper Steve Harper tweeted their thoughts after the club finally officially announced Kinnear’s appointment:

#NUFC can confirm that Joe Kinnear has been appointed as the Club's new Director of Football on three-year deal

— Newcastle United FC (@NUFCOfficial) June 18, 2013

Striker Sammy Ameobi, younger brother of Shola Ameobi who Kinnear referred to in his TalkSport interview, was disappointed with the considerably inevitable mispronunciation of his family name by the new Newcastle United DoF:

Wow at least get my name right

— Samuel Ameobi (@Sammy_Ameobi) June 17, 2013

Steve Harper, who is due to leave the club this summer after 20 years loyal service, appeared to indicate he thought the radio station appearance was more suited to an April Fools’ Day prank:

Just listened to the amazing interview that you're all tweeting about from last night….#canspeakopenlyonapril1sorryjuly1
