England Under-21s put up such little resistance in their Under-21 European Championship clash with the Scandinavians, the cameras spotted a Norway fan knitting in the stands.

The woman, clad in full Norwegian supporter regalia, appeared so confident her favoured team would triumph that she started work on a scarf for the next round.

Pictured in the final minutes of the game, it’s hard to tell what kind of garment is being created, but the knitting lady certainly seems nonplussed by events on the field.

First-half goals from Fredrik Semb Berge and Jo Inge Berget, followed by a strike from Magnus Wolff Eikrem shortly after half-time consigned Stuart Pearce’s English youngsters to a second successive defeat.

England managed to pull one back via a penalty from Craig Dawson, but the damage had already been done and England Under-21s are left bottom of Group A with one match left to play (against Israel) and no hope of progressing through to the next round of the competition.

A disappointing end to the tournament for England, but at least we may see what this fan knits next.
