In a world of ’80s music, high shorts and tucked in shirts 25 years ago, a then Ryan Wilson was the star of the show as Salford defeated Blackburn 3-2 and secured the coveted schoolboy trophy.

Wilson was the young Ryan’s father’s name, although the player later went on to assume his mother’s maiden name – Giggs.

Already on the books at Manchester United the fresh-faced youngster, instantly recognisable in this clip, was closely watched from the start of the match as these fantastic extended highlights of the game reveal.

ITV covered the game extensively and we are even treated to commentary from the institutional Martin Tyler.

Giggs, who was 15 at the time, was named man of the match and replied when asked in the post-match interview “you could be playing at Old Trafford tonight, couldn’t you?”

Yeah, for the under-15s, but I decided to play for this team instead because I’d rather play at Anfield – better pitch here.
