Embattled Manager of the Week: Paul Lambert, Aston Villa

Paul Lambert
Lambert… Embattled

Wasn’t a great week for Aston Villa, was it? Cup exits at the hands of Bradford City and Millwall have eliminated any remaining slither of optimism at Villa Park, so it was no surprise to see the denizens of the Villa Talk message board calling for the sacking of manager Paul Lambert…

Stands accused of…

drat01…

Paul Lambert – like Warwick Davis in Walsall Gala baths – totally out of his depth

jacketspuds…

Lambert is worse than McLeish. Please leave now.

Yes Lerner and Faulkner are a nightmare but Lambert is responsible and must go. His signings, his tactics, his choices and we still get outplayed by Bradford and Millwall in a week. Not acceptable. Has to be gone before the Newcastle game.

Denis_B…

There must be questions about his tactics? – FOUR CENTRE FORWARDS on the pitch Tuesday and he took off a midfilder and wing back to accomodate – where was the supply from? – of course lumped balls from the back when their CB play this type of game week in and week out – pathetic!

We pick ourselves up and go again!??? Well Lambert you not only talk shite but you are by far the worst manager for a long time at this club wtf do you do in training??!! I have never felt so low as a villa fan

thunderball…

Dear, dear. Doesn’t bode well for next season, their Championship players are better than our Championship players

KSV…

3 million on lowton.. 2 mil on Bennett.. 3 million on kea. 1 million on bowerry . Wasted 10 million on poor players.

drat01…

The road to recovery for AVFC starts with the removal of the most incompetent manager we have ever had. Yes it needs to be followed with other changes at higher up in the AVFC food chain, but Lambert is one of the worst managers I have ever had the misfortune to witness running the team.

Clueless, witless, incompetent, get rid of the clearing in the woods now

avfc1982am…

Most people would agree not all of Lamberts signings have been poor however I think the majority of people have issues with both Lerner and Lambert. The former for being a voiceless prick and the latter for being tactically unintelligent, his inability to get the best out of what he’s got, organise the team or improve on mistakes, same shit excuses – take your pick I could go on?! Personally I might question it but I don’t judge any manager on the players they buy, only what they do with them. And although I agree that some of his signings are decent with the likes of Benteke, Vlaar and Lowton,in my opinion he’s done fuck all with decent players in Bent,Ireland and NZog(until recently) and nothing with the rest of the squad!

So lambert said why spend big and put the clubs future at risk ( which is what he’s doing by not spending at all) when we could spend big and still be relegated. Wow wow WOW what kind of message is that to be putting forward to fans and players he’s a joke. When we do get relegated he will be sacked because villa fans will make sure of it what an arrogant useless prick he has turned into. Norwich fans must be laughing their heads off god knows every other fans in the country are

CI…

The manager has been backed and wasted the funds buying dross, alienating experienced resource available, employing dire tactics and basically being clueless and unable to motivate or lead the players.
Probably the worst villa manager ever.

Don’t know why, but of all the things Lambert has come out with over the past few days, this annoyed me most:

“No fan can be hurting more than me.”

I’ve been supporting this club since I was about 7 and attended matches regularly from the age of 10. I have lived and breathed Villa all these years and suffered many lows and enjoyed a few highs but have stuck with the club because they are in my blood.

Paul Lambert is doing a job for Villa on a massive contract which, if he fails, will almost certainly end with a massive payout for him. He is no doubt hoping to position himself for a job with a bigger club in a few years time and whatever happens during his time at Villa, it will just be part of his CV.

I wonder who is really going to be hurting more if we are relegated?

danceoftheshamen…

Oh good we’re out… What a shock… Not! This now goes down as the worst team i have ever seen in Claret & Blue (& Yes i’m including West Ham, Burnley in that too) My reaction tonight was one of ………..”Oh” in a really tepid “Meh” kind of way. I am past caring about this ridiculous football club. Shame on you all at Villa! You are an absolute embarrassment to the name.

Still every cloud has a silver lining… At least that means i don’t have to endure watching that lot in the FA cup again this season

Can’t we just forfeit the remaining points this season & save us all the waste of time, money & embarrassment of watching it…. One things for sure though… I won’t be.. Villa Park is now on my “avoid” list.

Right i’m off up the bookies to put a fiver on a 0-5 defeat against the barcodes

In his defence…

DelboyVilla…

He’s alienated one senior player as far as I can see in Bent. The others had already been found out to be useless oxygen bandits far before Lambert arrived!! And Bent has been ousted by Benteke and Weimann who have both offered more to the team this season than Bent. PL mistake was to think players like Ireland would ever give a performance worthy of the money he get’s paid.

villan_007…

I can see where you are coming from, sometimes my initial thoughts have been to scream at him what are you doing! but then I look at the squad he inherited, and the money he was given to improve that, and I dont think there is any room to be tactically brilliant with this group.

There are literally no options in midfield to switch it up, we have no real natural width to switch to. What is he suppossed to do really??

VillaGoMarching…

Why is it suddenly Lambert who is the problem? When for the last 3 years this same core of players have struggled to be motivated and organised.

We are all to aware of why Hutton and Warnock were exiled. Both of them were walking liabilities. One an own goal waiting to happen and the other a red card. Collins was moved on simply because he was on higher wages than Vlaar would command and 2 years older, with a fancy for a tipple (glug). Dunne has been injured since Lambert walked through the door. None if them could have improved the current situation.

The only bloke we’ve missed from last years playing squad is Stan. He’d be dragging this team to safety.
