Luka Modrić has won the Ballon d’Or at the 2018 ceremony in Paris, ending the continual awards to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo over the last ten years.
The 33-year-old midfielder guided Croatia to a World Cup final in the summer after winning the Champions League with Real Madrid in May.
However, many fans vented their frustration on social media that the prize had not gone to one of the former favourites.
There was also uproar when presenter Martin Solveig asked Women’s Ballon d’Or Ada Hegerberg if she knew how to twerk.
These were the best jokes from the Ballon d’Or ceremony as Luka Modrić wins in 2018:

In a night where Messi and Ronaldo were eclipsed for the first time since 2008, and the first ever women's Ballon D'or was awarded, there was one man that knew no matter what it was going to be his night. Take a bow Martin Solveig. #BallonDor pic.twitter.com/RHC4t2Vd2c

Surely Harry Kane should have won #BallonDor
1. Now knows his ABC’s
2. Can tie his shoelaces
3. No longer dribbles in his dinner
4. Knows the difference between Red and White

So Neymar decided to stay at home to play Call Of Duty than attend the #BallonDor ceremony.
If I had seen that I ended up 12th via a leaked result, I would have stayed home to play games too.
