Arsène Wenger’s Gunners can at least take solace from the fact that the Bundesliga champions won’t be able to knock them out in the last 16 this time around.
They will however prevent a stern obstacle to Arsenal’s progress in the competition, not least because teams that finish 2nd in their group then have to contest a two-legged knock-out tie against the winners of another group.
