World Cup Fantasy Football tips: Final and third place playoff
- By Football Burp
World Cup Fantasy Football tips for Brazil 2014 reach their natural conclusion along with the tournament itself as the final and third place playoff take place this weekend.
There’s not a whole lot left to say at this point – four teams remain, and they’re the same four teams that featured in the semi-finals – so we’ll break from habit and deliver it all to you in one go, as opposed to the usual trio of position-specific pieces.
Onwards, then, with the World Cup Fantasy Football tips for the Germany v Argentina final and Brazil v Holland third place playoff…
You know by now who the star players are, what they’re worth and what kind of form they’re in – the trick now remains the same as the semi-finals, insomuch you must pick your two winners and flood your team with their player.
However, this time the winners aren’t as easily picked – whereas last time Brazil’s absentees and Argentina’s sort-of home advantage led us to ultimately correct assumptions (albeit we never foresaw 7-1!), this time it doesn’t look so clear cut.
Germany v Argentina is almost too tight to call – if pushed, however, we’d err on the side of Germany and their magnificent attacking midfield.
Mind you, you wouldn’t be surprised with 0-0 or 1-0 either way, so bear that in mind when picking your defence.
It may be intuitive to think first of the successful finalists, but Brazil v Holland is potentially a points-spinning encounter too – perhaps even more so in terms of attack, since the third place playoff match carries significantly less pressure than the final.
Don’t expect Holland to follow Germany in thrashing Brazil – the hosts’ central defensive rock Thiago Silva will be back from suspension, after all – but they could score at least a couple if Louis van Gaal decides to ease up and let loose in his final match as manager of the Netherlands.
Might be best to go a Dutch player as your captain, or even Brazil’s David Luiz now that Silva is back to anchor his mad forays forwards.
Either that or one of the defenders of whoever you fancy to win the final, since whoever does so will very possibly have to keep a clean sheet.
