Get ready for 2017-18 with this carefully scouted list of Fantasy Premier League bargain defenders, here to propel you to fantasy football success.

Recommendations include players from Liverpool, Man City, Spurs, Everton, Swansea, Southampton, West Brom, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Leicester.

James Milner, LIV – £6.5m

Might not look a bargain at that price, but as Liverpool’s first-choice penalty taker it should be of note that he’s listed as a defender this season.

However, bear in mind his left-back spot is now under threat from the arrival of Andrew Robertson.

Vincent Kompany, MCI – £6m

Obviously it depends if he can stay fit, but three goals at the end of last season suggest he could really profit from Kevin De Bruyne’s set pieces.

Kieran Trippier, TOT – £5.5m

First choice now Kyle Walker has joined Man City, and his flurry of assists at the end of last season promises big things for this one.

Michael Keane, EVE – £5.5m

The danger he poses from set pieces didn’t quite translate into goals last season, but it may well do at Everton – and he might also keep more clean sheets.

However, £6m team-mate Leighton Baines is likely to remain Everton’s first-choice penalty taker, so keep that in mind.

Alfie Mawson, SWA – £5m

Quite frankly, he scores goals – 4 in just 23 games last season, and he could even have had a few more.

Cédric Soares, SOU – £5m

Southampton’s favourable early fixtures are hard to ignore, but if you can afford the extra £0.5m then team-mate Ryan Bertrand offers greater attacking threat.

Craig Dawson, WBA – £5m

Gareth McAuley became last season’s popular West Brom pick with a startling run of goals, but Dawson poses a similar threat and has relative youth on his side.

Charlie Daniels, BOU – £5m

Still cheaply priced despite weighing in with his fair share of attacking contributions over the last two seasons.

Patrick van Aanholt, CRY – £5m

If Frank de Boer sees him as first choice then he can score goals from the left wing-back position.

Danny Simpson, LEI – £4.5m

Leicester rediscovered their mojo under Craig Shakespeare in the second half of last season and have a happy knack for clean sheets.
